The difference between professional and household waste

How do you know whether an appliance is professional or household? That’s easy: consult the Recupel appliance lists.

Objective criteria, such as weight and power, determine whether an appliance is household or professional. Both kinds can be present in a company or organisation, and this is called professional waste. Some examples:

a laptop = household

belongs to the group of portable computers/electronic business agendas (incl. computers with built-in printer and/or transmitting equipment and translation computers and all possible combinations including calculators, GPS, ...).

a hot drinks dispenser = professional

an electric or electronic dispenser, meant for the sale or provision, via self-service, of primarily chilled and/or heated products, which operates by means of entering a coin, a bank note, a token, a card/key or in any other way

a photocopier 35 kg or less = household

one of the unifunctional photocopiers and/or multifunctional appliances that combine several functions (fax, printer, scanner, copier, ...) weighing 35 kg or less

a photocopier more than 35 kg = professional

one of the unifunctional photocopiers and/or multifunctional appliances that combine several functions (fax, printer, scanner, copier, ...) weighing more than 35 kg
