From toys to baby monitors: give old electrical devices a new life

Children grow fast. Their devices don’t grow with them.

Before you know it, that favourite electric toy is sitting untouched in a cupboard. The baby monitor is no longer needed, the bottle warmer is gathering dust and the night light has had its day too.

If you care for children, you use quite a few electrical and electronic devices over the years. But what should you do with them once you no longer need them?

More than just electric toys

When you think of electrical devices for children, you might first think of toys that light up, make sounds, move, recharge or run on batteries. But there’s more. Think of a baby monitor, bottle warmer, night light, steriliser or another electrical device that you only use during a certain stage.

No longer need it? Search for your device and enter your location. Our tool shows you the available options and helps you find the right solution near you.

Could someone else still use it?

No longer needed doesn’t necessarily mean ready to be discarded. Is the device still in good condition? Pass it on to family or friends, or take it to a second-hand shop.

That way, it stays in use for longer and can still bring someone else some joy or make their life a little easier.

Broken? Don’t write it off too quickly

A toy robot that no longer moves, a baby monitor that’s playing up or a night light that has stopped working? Sometimes a repair can give the device a whole new life.

A professional repairer can check whether it can still be fixed. Sometimes a small repair is enough to keep it going for quite a while longer.

Truly past its best? Recycle it

Is the device broken beyond repair? Don’t throw electric or electronic toys or other electrical devices in the general waste.

Take it to a Recupel point. That way, valuable materials can be recovered from the device and used again. You can find Recupel points at recycling centres and in many shops.

What about the batteries?

Does the device use removable batteries that are easy to take out? Remove them and take them separately to a Bebat collection point.

Is the battery built in and difficult to remove? Leave it inside the device and take the complete device to a Recupel point. That way, it can be processed safely and correctly.
