Comprehensive information about the WEEE report

WEEE stands for Waste of Electrical and Electronic Equipment.

What is the difference between POM and OOM?

POM = Put On the Market. This refers to electrical or electronic appliances that are placed on the market. For that segment, a quarterly declaration has to be submitted via Recupel’s digital members’ platform. Based on that declaration, members receive an invoice for the Recupel contribution for all declared appliances.

OOM = Out Of the Market. This is about electrical and electronic appliances that are recovered and thus taken back out of the market. An annual declaration for this segment is required via the WEEE report. Based on that declaration, you will receive a PDF.

What is the WEEE report?

The WEEE report concerns the Out Of the Market segment. This report must be completed every January. It is important to do so before the deadline, so that you fulfil the reporting obligations imposed by the Belgian and European authorities.

When will you receive emails about the WEEE report?

As a Recupel member, you will be emailed about the WEEE report at three different times.

  1. In October or November, you will receive a request to check and/or update the contact details for the person in your organisation who is responsible for submitting the WEEE report.
  2. At the beginning of January, you will receive an email to say that the WEEE report can now be completed. This is done via a personalised link in the email sent to the person whose name was provided as a contact in the previous mailing. You have until 31 January to submit the report.
  3. At the end of January, you will receive a final reminder to submit the WEEE report.

What is my profile?

To be able to complete the WEEE report correctly, it is important to know your organisation’s profile. There are three different profiles.

  1. Your organisation has not recovered any WEEE in the past year. For example, this would apply to a kitchen installer who only provides kitchens for newbuild projects. In that case, indicate this via the link in the email. You will not have to complete a WEEE report.
  2. Your organisation has recovered some WEEE in the past year, and this has all been reported via the Recupel circuit: that is, via container parks, second-hand shops and/or Recupel's logistics platform (where you can make a request for pick up). In that case, indicate this via the link in the email. You will not have to complete a WEEE report.
  3. Your organisation has recovered some WEEE in the past year, but not all of it was reported via the Recupel circuit. Other possibilities for dealing with your OOM appliances include: waste collectors (including Recupel-approved recyclers), export, internal (re)sale, donations, own dismantling, return to the parent company abroad and/or return to suppliers/producers. In that case, indicate this via the link in the email. You will then be connected to the page where you can complete the WEEE report.

How to complete the WEEE report?

If your organisation belongs to profile 1 or 2, confirm this by clicking the link in the email. If your organisation belongs to profile 3, you will be connected to the platform where you can complete your WEEE report. There, you declare the weight of the appliances you have recovered and thus taken out of the market in the past year. This is done in accordance with the 6 categories of Recupel’s appliance list. You can always save the information you have already entered and go back to your report whenever you want.
